Poetry Ireland Web Design and Development
Poetry Ireland | A digital venue connecting poets and audiences via accessible design
Piquant partnered with Poetry Ireland to deliver a comprehensive digital transformation, transitioning the organisation from a resource-heavy site to a vibrant online venue. We overcame the limitations of an antiquated CMS to build a modern, accessible platform that promotes excellence in poetry while fostering a diverse global community.
A user-centric digital overhaul that replaced a restrictive legacy system with an intuitive, contemporary interface, aligning complex archival resources and event programming under one powerful narrative to grow audiences and support artists.
The heart of Irish poetry
Poetry Ireland is the national organisation dedicated to achieving excellence in the reading, writing, and performance of poetry throughout the island of Ireland. The organisation acts as a critical connector between the art form and the people, serving a broad ecosystem including established poets and emerging writers, educators and literature enthusiasts.
Beyond legacy barriers
The primary challenge was a severely outdated CMS that hindered content delivery, specifically video and audio, and created significant administrative bottlenecks. The organisation required a solution that could move at the pace of modern technology, resolving the manual processing of opportunities and balancing high-volume education programmes with a busy events calendar.
Mapping a user-centric journey
We saw an opportunity to transform these technical limitations into a strength by implementing an "Atomic Design" approach. By breaking the site into reusable building blocks, we created a scalable and efficient interface focused on user journey mapping, ensuring that every visitor enjoys a seamless, intuitive experience.
Innovation through functional design
We resolved administrative strain by developing a custom system that allows external organisations to submit events for approval, streamlining the "Opps" section. The new platform features a flexible events calendar with multi-category filtering, an integrated shopfront for publications, and a robust donations system, all while exceeding modern accessibility and privacy standards.
A venue for the future
The result is a high-performance digital venue that captures the vibrancy of the Irish poetry scene and supports recruitment and fundraising at critical moments. By aligning stakeholder needs with cutting-edge web technologies, we delivered a platform that inspires engagement and positions Poetry Ireland as a contemporary leader in the arts.
