“It’s not until you step inside your sleeping bag for the night that the reality hits you, and you remember what you’re really on the streets to raise money for. Up until then, it was a fun night collecting money, talking to people, and soaking up the festive spirit”

“After the last of the stragglers made their way home around 3am, it was time for sleep. Getting comfortable on the hard concrete ground, you start to get a sense of the vulnerability that comes with sleeping in a public space. Being woken up by street cleaners in the early hours of Saturday morning was a surreal experience. It’s one thing to sleep out on the streets for charity by choice, but it’s another to be unwillingly made homeless and have no choice but to survive a cold winter’s night.”
For us, it was only one night, but for many people living on the streets in Limerick, it’s their daily reality.
