Doras (formerly known as Doras Luimni) are an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation working to support & promote the rights of migrants living in Ireland. Starting in Limerick and now working throughout the mid-west region, Doras work to improve the outcomes for migrants by helping them access their rights and entitlements. We worked with Doras to create a complete brand system that showcased the work that they do through an accessible and welcoming brand.
What we did:
- Brand identity
- Graphic Design
- Photography Production

BRAND DEVELOPMENT — Working to promote and protect human rights, Doras offer ground level support to service users, service providers, and the community, so it was important that they retain an approachable, non-judgmental brand. The Irish translation of Doras is ‘door’. This epitomises the open door policy of the institution: welcoming, warm and clear in their message.

We created a logotype which incorporated the door shape into the counter of the D. Typographically, we closed the counters to echo the brand concept and to create a home made poster style aesthetic to the messaging. We established a fresh colour palette that matched the warm personality of the brand and created a background pattern that casts a ray of light from the door within the D. We then created a series of icons for Doras in colour, solid and line styles that they could use for the various instances.

PHOTOGRAPHY — Central to the brand is the service users who Doras work with everyday. We interviewed each participant and photographed them in our studio against a coloured backdrop. We asked the participants their names, age, where they are from and occupation so that viewers can look past the immigrant status and see the person for who they are.

EDITORIAL DESIGN — When designing publications for Doras, we are conscious that English might not be the first language of the viewers. As a result we ensure that information is laid out in as clear a way as possible. We aim to break the information into smaller bite-size pieces so that it is easy to understand. Once the text is laid out, we apply the brand elements such as typographic rules, colour and photography to create an engaging publication that is consistent with the brand.
