Springfield Castle is an Irish landmark with over seven hundred years of history at its doorstep. The same family have acted as caretakers for the stunning castle and surrounding land for generations, with a focus on conservation and sustainability. We were commissioned to develop a brand system, including logo design, typography, colour, photography and tone of voice, as well the design and development of a new website aimed to attract visitors to stay at the unique residence.
What we did:
- Brand Development
- Graphic Design
- Web Design and Development
- Photography Production

BRAND DEVELOPMENT — When we set out to develop this brand, we set on two key aspects that we felt were vital to reflect in this identity: the wealth of history that is contained within the walls of the castle, and the wild and wonderful nature that envelopes the surrounding estate. When researching the history of the castle we studied surviving documents, artefacts and stories. After coming upon a wax seal with the family’s crest we decided to craft an emblem for the castle itself. We explored the grounds, stepping between the nooks, crannies and winding bramble, and took inspiration from these scenes when we crafted the logo by incorporating subtle floral flourishes, and when defining a colour palette, using stone grey, foliage green and sky blue.

PHOTOGRAPHY — When developing a strategy for photography, we recognised that the family, who have passionately maintained and restored the castle and surrounding grounds, were an integral ingredient to the brand narrative. We captured the architecture, the grounds, and the artefacts displayed within the castle walls. We also actively captured the family in their working environment, tending to the gardens, walking with their dogs, and preparing meals in the kitchen. This allowed us to truly reflect the day-to-day activities that take place at Springfield, a truly living and functioning castle.

WEBSITE DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT — We worked with the team at Springfield Castle to develop their website. It was created as a primary digital platform to communicate brand values, convey brand narrative and the history of the castle and include key functionality such as implementing a booking system for visitors. The website, which was developed in WordPress, integrates their new brand elements into the design and allows the brand to communicate its rich history to its audience.
